How to grow cucurbits

Warmth — cucurbits are sensitive to frost. Sow seeds for transplants in April and plant them outdoors after mid-May. Direct sowing is possible when the soil temperature is at least 12–15°C.

Site — sunny, with fertile, humus-rich soil. Pumpkins and zucchini need plenty of space, while cucumbers and watermelons also grow well in a polytunnel.

Watering — regular, preferably at the base of the plant, without wetting the leaves, which helps limit fungal diseases.
