LECA consists of lightweight balls made from fired clay. They do not rot, do not change the pH of the growing medium and allow water to drain well, making them a basic drainage material for pots.
What to use LECA for
Drainage - a 2–5 cm layer at the bottom of a pot drains excess water away from the roots.
Hydroponics - LECA can replace soil in hydroponic and semi-hydroponic growing.
Mulch - on the surface of the soil, it limits water evaporation and looks attractive.
