An early Polish star - cylindrical and golden. Golden Zeppelin is a new, high-yielding squash variety with a distinctive cylindrical shape and a color that changes as it grows: young fruits are light celadon, while mature ones are golden yellow. The light cream-colored, juicy flesh is delicate and packed with nutrients.
Golden Zeppelin is a great compromise between a zucchini (light and young) and a pumpkin (mature, larger and sweeter). You can harvest it young - then use it like a zucchini for grilling and frying. Or leave it to fully mature - then you get large, 2–4 kg cylindrical fruits with creamy golden, sweet flesh. Two vegetables from one plant.
Sowing (late April, in pots): sow the seeds in 8–10 cm pots. You can also sow directly into the ground in May, once the risk of frost has passed.
Planting out (second half of May): plant the seedlings at 1.5 × 1.5 m spacing, with 2–3 seeds in each spot. After emergence, leave the strongest plant.
Care: sunny position, fertile soil, preferably after manure. Water regularly, especially while the fruits are setting. Mulching helps retain moisture.
Harvest (July – September): harvest young fruits (up to 25 cm) like zucchini - every few days. Harvest mature fruits (with completely yellow skin) before the first frosts.
Versatile: young, like zucchini - for grilling, frying and stuffing. Mature, like pumpkin - for creamy soups, cakes and baking. Excellent in vegetarian and calorie-conscious cooking (low in calories, high in nutrients). It can also be grated and frozen for fritters.
Leave a maximum of 2–3 fruits to mature on each plant and harvest the rest young. A large Zeppelin weighs around 3 kg - if you leave all the fruit set, you will get 6 small fruits instead of 3 large ones. The rule: harvest early or leave selected fruits to mature - never do both at once on the same plant.
