BIGOS Soil for Monstera and Philodendrons is a professional BIOVITA substrate for plants that naturally climb trees and cannot tolerate standing water: monsteras, philodendrons, pothos, syngoniums and alocasias. Coconut fiber and coconut chips create a loose, porous structure where roots can breathe, while the fertilizer in the mix nourishes plants for the first 4–5 weeks after repotting. An 8 l bag is enough to repot one mature monstera or two to three smaller philodendrons.

What makes this product stand out
Monsteras and philodendrons are climbers and hemiepiphytes in nature - their thick, fleshy roots need plenty of air and quickly rot in dense, constantly wet soil. BIGOS mimics the conditions of a rainforest floor: coconut fiber retains moisture and gradually releases it to the roots, while coarse coconut chips create stable air channels that do not collapse after a few months like perlite in ordinary soil.
The recipe was developed for plants that like even moisture but do not tolerate overwatering - which is why it also works well for other plants with similar requirements. A pH of 5.5–6.5 suits aroids, while the professional fertilizer in the mix meets their nutritional needs for 4–5 weeks after repotting, giving the roots time to establish themselves in the substrate.
How to use it step by step
Preparation: choose a pot 2–4 cm larger than the current one, with drainage holes, and place 2–3 cm of expanded clay on the bottom. Mix the soil in the bag with your hands - the coconut chips tend to settle at the bottom - and lightly moisten it if it is dry. If the plant is to be trained on a support, place it in the pot now.
Planting: remove the monstera or philodendron from its old pot, shake off loose soil and inspect the roots: healthy roots are light-colored and firm; cut away brown, soft ones. Position the plant at the same depth as before; you can direct aerial roots deeper into the pot. Fill the sides with BIGOS and gently press it down.
Watering: water thoroughly until water runs out through the holes, then empty the excess from the saucer. Afterwards, water only when the top 3–4 cm of the substrate has dried out - in airy BIGOS, this is usually every 7–14 days. Aroids tolerate slight drying out better than constant wetness.
Feeding and repotting: do not fertilize for 4–5 weeks after repotting. Then, from spring to early autumn, apply fertilizer for green plants every 2 weeks. Repot fast-growing monsteras and philodendrons every 12–18 months, preferably in early spring.
Use
Substrate dedicated to all aroids: Monstera deliciosa and M. adansonii, philodendrons (climbing and self-heading), pothos, Scindapsus, syngoniums, alocasias, anthuriums, ZZ plants and peace lilies. It also works well for plants with similar requirements - hoyas, Rhaphidophora and rooted cuttings of climbing plants - as well as for potting up seedlings of exotic plants after the seedling stage. Fans of very airy "aroid mix" blends can additionally mix in bark, perlite or coconut chips in a 3:1 ratio.
Gardener's tip
A monstera with large, fenestrated leaves needs support - in BIGOS with coconut chips, insert a coco coir pole or moss pole during repotting, rather than waiting a year until the roots fill the pot. When attached to a moist support, aerial roots grow into it, the plant grows faster, and new leaves become larger and more deeply fenestrated.
