BIGOS Soil for Monsteras and Philodendrons is a professional BIOVITA substrate for plants that climb trees in nature and cannot tolerate standing water: monsteras, philodendrons, epipremnums, syngoniums and alocasias. Coconut fibre and coconut chips create a loose, porous structure in which roots can breathe, while the fertilizer in the mix feeds the plants for the first 4–5 weeks after repotting. The 16 l bag is enough for one large, mature monstera in a 30 cm pot and several smaller aroids.

What makes this product stand out
Monsteras and philodendrons are climbers and hemiepiphytes in nature – their thick, fleshy roots need plenty of air and quickly rot in compact, permanently wet soil. BIGOS mimics rainforest-floor conditions: coconut fibre retains moisture and gradually releases it to the roots, while coarse coconut chips create stable air channels that do not collapse after a few months like perlite in ordinary soil.
The formula was created for plants that prefer even moisture but do not tolerate overwatering – which is why it also works well for other plants with similar requirements. A pH of 5.5–6.5 suits aroids, while the professional fertilizer in the mix meets their nutritional needs for 4–5 weeks after repotting, giving the roots time to establish themselves in the substrate.
How to use it step by step
Preparation: choose a pot 2–4 cm larger than the current one, with drainage holes, and place 2–3 cm of expanded clay at the bottom. Mix the soil in the bag with your hands – coconut chips tend to settle at the bottom – and lightly moisten it if dry. If the plant will be grown with support, position it in the pot now.
Planting: remove the monstera or philodendron from its old pot, shake off loose soil and inspect the roots: healthy roots are light-coloured and firm; cut away brown, soft roots. Position the plant at the same depth as before; aerial roots can be directed into the pot. Fill the sides with BIGOS and press down gently.
Watering: water thoroughly until water runs out through the holes, then empty any excess from the saucer. Afterwards, water only when the top 3–4 cm of substrate has dried out – in airy BIGOS, this is usually once every 7–14 days. Aroids tolerate slight drying out better than constantly wet conditions.
Feeding and repotting: do not fertilize for 4–5 weeks after repotting. Then, from spring to early autumn, apply fertilizer for green plants every 2 weeks. Repot fast-growing monsteras and philodendrons every 12–18 months, preferably in early spring.
Applications
Substrate dedicated to all aroids: Monstera deliciosa and Monstera adansonii, philodendrons (climbing and self-heading), epipremnums, scindapsuses, syngoniums, alocasias, anthuriums, zamioculcases and peace lilies. It also works well for plants with similar requirements – hoyas, rhaphidophoras and rooted vine cuttings – as well as for potting up exotic plant seedlings after the seedling stage. Fans of very airy “aroid mix” blends can additionally mix in bark, perlite or coconut chips in a 3:1 ratio.
Gardener’s tip
A monstera with large, fenestrated leaves needs support – in BIGOS with coconut chips, insert a coir pole or moss pole when repotting, rather than waiting a year until the roots fill the pot. Aerial roots attached to a moist support grow into it, the plant grows faster, and new leaves become larger and more deeply divided.
