Deep purple flowers that release an extraordinary fragrance in the evening. Purple Perfume is an annual ornamental tobacco plant that grows to around 60 cm tall. Numerous flowers shaped like flared trumpets develop at the tips of the stems, in a deep, dark purple color. The flowers are intensely fragrant toward the end of the day, so this plant is best suited to places where we spend summer evenings. It blooms in late summer and early autumn.

What makes this variety special
The dark flowers of Purple Perfume stand out against the green foliage and pair well with plants that have light, silvery leaves. The fragrance is released mainly in the evening, so it is worth planting them by a patio, bench, window, or house entrance - wherever we spend time most often after dark.
The plant is also valuable to wildlife - its flowers attract numerous insects, making it a good choice for a naturalistic garden. It grows well in borders as well as in large pots or planters. Purple Perfume ornamental tobacco is grown solely as a decorative plant; it is not intended for consumption.
Growing step by step
Sowing (March–April, under cover): The seeds are very fine, so sow them thinly over the surface of moist, fine seed-starting mix and press them down lightly without covering them, or cover them only very lightly. Maintain a temperature of 18–22°C and consistent moisture, preferably covering the container with plastic film or a clear lid. Germination takes 10–20 days.
Pricking out: Once the seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant them individually into pots. Grow the seedlings in a bright spot and harden them off for a week before planting out, placing them outside on warm days.
Planting out (after May 15–20): Plant out after the last frosts in a sunny location, spacing plants 20–30 cm apart. They grow best in fertile, humus-rich, moist, well-drained soil.
Care: Water regularly, especially during hot weather and when growing in containers, as tobacco plants do not tolerate drying out. During the growing season, you can feed the plants with fertilizer for flowering plants. Removing faded flowers extends the flowering period.
Uses
Purple Perfume is an ideal plant for scented gardens and relaxation areas - by patios, gazebos, and paths. It looks good in borders and along flowerbed edges, in pots and planters, and also in naturalistic gardens as a plant that supports insects. The dark flowers pair beautifully with white and pink annuals and ornamental grasses.
A gardener's tip
Plant several together near a place where you sit in the evening - the fragrance is strongest at dusk and on warm, still nights.
