A low ornamental grass with an intense gray-blue color and perfectly round clumps. Festuca glauca 'Blue Select' is a selection developed in 1996 that looks best in small groups, in rock gardens and on green roofs. The plant is also known as blue fescue or blue sheep's fescue.

Appearance and growth habit

The fescue forms compact, spherical clumps of very narrow, gray-blue leaves. In May and June, delicate, pale gray-blue flower heads appear. In flower, it reaches approximately 25 cm in height. It originates from the Mediterranean region.

Cultivation

This perennial is hardy in USDA zones 4–7 and tolerates drought well. It grows best in dry or average, well-drained soil. Plant spacing should be approximately 30 cm.

Uses

Excellent for rock gardens, gravel beds, borders and green roofs. The blue clumps create a beautiful contrast with plants that have dark or silver leaves. The flowers are also a source of food for bees.
