Description

Besgrow Spagmoss Classic 500 g (40 L) – natural Sphagnum moss from New Zealand

Besgrow Spagmoss Classic 500 g is a large package of dried sphagnum moss (Sphagnum) harvested on the West Coast of New Zealand's South Island. The compressed 500 g block expands to approximately 40 liters of moss when hydrated – enough for a larger plant collection or several terrariums.

The Classic grade means longer and cleaner fibers than in the Blended version. These strands are more durable and retain their structure well, making them suitable wherever the moss needs to perform for a long time: in orchid cultivation, terrariums, or as filling for support poles for climbing plants.

The moss is a natural and organic product. It absorbs water like a sponge and slowly releases it to plants, while its light, porous structure allows roots free access to air.

Key features

  • natural, organic sphagnum moss (Sphagnum) from New Zealand
  • Classic grade – longer and cleaner fibers than in the Blended version
  • durable strands that retain their structure for a long time
  • hand-harvested from carefully managed sites with sustainable harvesting practices and naturally air-dried
  • releases water and nutrients without salt buildup in the growing medium
  • very high water-retention capacity with gradual release
  • light, porous structure that provides roots with access to air
  • dried and compressed – 500 g yields approximately 40 L of moss after hydration

Uses

Especially recommended for orchids, carnivorous plants, aroids, ferns, and epiphytes – wherever plants need consistent moisture.

  • growing medium or additive for orchids, ferns, and other moisture-loving plants
  • filling for plant support poles – the moss releases moisture for a long time
  • lining for hanging baskets and plant arrangements
  • terrariums, including as moist bedding for reptiles
  • ingredient in mixes where increased water-retention capacity is needed
  • rooting cuttings and growing young plants

Directions for use

  1. Place the required amount of dry moss in a container of clean, lukewarm water and leave it until the fibers are fully saturated and soft.
  2. Gently squeeze out excess water – the moss should be moist and springy, not dripping.
  3. Use it on its own as a growing medium or layer around roots, or mix it with bark, perlite, or another growing medium when you want to increase water retention.
  4. During cultivation, keep the moss slightly moist by misting it as it dries; do not allow it to remain constantly waterlogged.

Safety and storage

The moss is a natural product and is not suitable for consumption. Store in a dry place, in a sealed package, out of reach of children and pets. Dry fibers may generate dust – separate them in a well-ventilated area and wash your hands after use.
