Description

Besgrow Spagmoss Classic 100 g (8 L) – natural Sphagnum moss from New Zealand

Besgrow Spagmoss Classic 100 g is dried, highly compressed sphagnum moss (Sphagnum) harvested on the West Coast of New Zealand’s South Island. After soaking, the small 100 g brick expands to approximately 8 litres of fluffy, ready-to-use moss.

The Classic grade means longer and cleaner fibres than in the Blended version. These strands are more durable and retain their structure well, making them suitable wherever the moss needs to remain effective for a long time: growing orchids, in terrariums or as filling for climbing plant poles.

The moss is a natural and organic product. It absorbs water like a sponge and slowly releases it to plants, while its lightweight, porous structure allows roots free access to air. The small pack is convenient for those who need moss for a few pots, cuttings or a single terrarium.

Key features

  • natural, organic sphagnum moss (Sphagnum) from New Zealand
  • Classic grade – longer and cleaner fibres than in the Blended version
  • durable strands that retain their structure for a long time
  • hand-harvested from carefully managed sites with sustainable harvesting practices and naturally air-dried
  • releases water and nutrients without accumulating salts in the growing medium
  • very high water-retention capacity and gradual water release
  • lightweight, porous structure providing roots with access to air
  • dried and compressed – 100 g yields approx. 8 L of moss after hydration

Uses

Especially recommended for orchids, carnivorous plants, aroids, ferns and epiphytes – wherever plants require consistent moisture.

  • growing medium or additive for orchids, ferns and other moisture-loving plants
  • filling for plant support poles – the moss releases moisture for a long time
  • lining for hanging baskets and plant arrangements
  • terrariums, including as a moist lining for reptiles
  • an ingredient in mixes where increased water retention is needed
  • rooting cuttings and growing young plants

Directions for use

  1. Place the required amount of dry moss in a container of clean, lukewarm water and leave it until the fibres are completely saturated and soft.
  2. Gently squeeze out excess water – the moss should be moist and springy, not dripping.
  3. Use it on its own as a growing medium or layer around roots, or mix it with bark, perlite or another growing medium when you want to increase water retention.
  4. During cultivation, keep the moss slightly moist by misting it as it dries; do not allow it to remain permanently waterlogged.

Safety and storage

The moss is a natural product and is not suitable for consumption. Store in a dry place, in a sealed package, out of reach of children and pets. Dry fibres may create dust – separate them in a well-ventilated area and wash your hands after handling.
