Description

Besgrow Spagmoss Blended 150 g (12 L) – versatile Sphagnum moss from New Zealand

Besgrow Spagmoss Blended 150 g is dried sphagnum moss (Sphagnum) harvested on the West Coast of New Zealand’s South Island. A 150 g pack yields approximately 12 liters of moss after hydration – just right for a home plant collection.

The Blended version is a mixture of shorter and longer fibers. It is a more versatile grade of Spagmoss than Classic: it is easy to separate and combine with bark, perlite or coconut fiber, making it well suited for preparing your own growing media for orchids, cuttings and potted plants.

The moss is a natural, organic product. It absorbs water like a sponge and slowly releases it to plants, while its lightweight, porous structure gives roots free access to air. The manufacturer lists typical uses on the packaging: planting orchids, wrapping cuttings, grafting and lining baskets.

Key features

  • natural, organic sphagnum moss (Sphagnum) from New Zealand
  • Blended grade – a mixture of shorter and longer fibers
  • versatile and easy to combine with other growing-medium ingredients
  • hand-harvested from carefully managed sites with sustainable sourcing and naturally air-dried
  • releases water and nutrients without accumulating salts in the growing medium
  • very high water-retention capacity and gradual water release
  • lightweight, porous structure providing roots with access to air
  • dried and compressed – 150 g yields approximately 12 L of moss after hydration

Uses

It is recommended primarily as an ingredient in growing media for orchids, carnivorous plants, aroids, ferns and epiphytes, as well as for rooting cuttings.

  • ingredient in growing-medium mixes for orchids and potted plants
  • growing medium for ferns and other plants that prefer consistent moisture
  • rooting cuttings and growing young plants
  • filling for plant-support poles – the moss releases moisture over a long period
  • a layer in a pot or an additive that increases the growing medium’s absorbency
  • carnivorous plants, decorative arrangements and floristry

Directions for use

  1. Place the required amount of dry moss in a container of clean, lukewarm water and leave it until the fibers are completely saturated and soft.
  2. Gently squeeze out excess water – the moss should be moist and springy, not dripping.
  3. Use it on its own as a growing medium or as a layer around roots, or mix it with bark, perlite or another growing medium when you want to increase its absorbency.
  4. During cultivation, keep the moss slightly moist by misting it as it dries; do not allow it to remain constantly waterlogged.

Safety and storage

The moss is a natural product and is not suitable for consumption. Store in a dry place, in a closed package, out of reach of children and pets. Dry fibers may create dust – separate them in a well-ventilated place and wash your hands after use.
