Petals like needles, a color like a ruby. Cinderella is a variety of needle aster with an intense carmine-red color. The individual flowers are needle-shaped, closely packed together, and form the effect of tousled plumes - hence the name “needle”. One of the most beautiful colors among China asters.
Cinderella produces impressive flower heads with densely packed, narrow, needle-like petals that create an impression of movement and light in a bouquet. Its height of 50–80 cm makes it an ideal cut-flower aster - tall enough for long stems to suit a vase, but not so tall that it falls over.
Sowing (March – April, under cover): sow the seeds in trays or plug trays at a temperature of 16–20°C. Germination occurs after 7–14 days.
Pricking out: transplant seedlings with 2–3 leaves into separate pots or plug trays.
Planting out (May): after the last frosts, into beds at a spacing of 40 × 20 cm. Choose a sunny position with fertile, well-drained soil.
Care: water regularly during dry periods and feed every 2 weeks with fertilizer for flowering plants. Taller varieties should be gently supported in windy locations.
A classic for cut flowers - stays fresh in a vase for up to 14 days. Excellent for flower beds in single-variety group plantings or combined with other aster varieties (a needle aster mix of red, blue and white creates a phenomenal effect). Ideal for wedding and autumn bouquets.
To extend flowering, regularly cut off spent flower heads - an aster that has not had time to set seed tries to produce new buds. This way, one plant can provide 3–4 waves of flowers from July to October. Bonus: the cut flowers go straight into a vase.
