Dosage and use
Preparation: perlite is ready to use. As it creates dust, it is worth lightly moistening it with water from a spray bottle before mixing, or mixing it in a closed bag - this will help you avoid inhaling dust and dirt indoors.
Adding it to the growing medium: add perlite to potting soil, humus-rich soil or seed-starting mix at approx. 10–30% by volume (e.g. 1 l per 4–5 l of soil) and mix thoroughly. The manufacturer permits any proportions - for succulents, cacti and aroids, increase the proportion to 30–50%.
Rooting cuttings: root stem and leaf cuttings in clean, moist perlite or a 1:1 perlite and vermiculite mix. Perlite retains moisture around the cut while preventing rot.
Watering: growing media containing perlite dry more quickly and evenly - water when the top layer has dried out. Excess water drains away freely, keeping plants safer from overwatering.
