White granules that teach soil to breathe. Agro horticultural perlite is a natural volcanic mineral, expanded at high temperature into lightweight, white, porous granules. Mixed into growing media, it aerates and loosens them while regulating moisture, creating ideal conditions for roots – making it a classic addition to seed-starting soil, propagation mixes and potting mixes. Approved for use in organic farming. 10 l package.

What makes this product stand out
Perlite is volcanic glass that, when heated to approx. 1000°C, “pops” like popcorn and multiplies in volume. The resulting granules are filled with enclosed air bubbles inside and rough on the outside – allowing them to retain water on their surface without becoming fully waterlogged. Growing media containing perlite do not compact into a hard mass, drain excess water quickly after watering, and provide roots with oxygen that is usually lacking in heavy soil.
Perlite is sterile and chemically inert, containing no weed seeds or pathogens, so you can use it confidently for sowing and cuttings. BIOVITA offers it as an Agro product approved for organic cultivation, in a 10 l package – convenient for larger plant collections and seasonal seedlings.
How to use it step by step
Preparation: perlite is ready to use. As it creates dust, it is worth lightly moistening it with water from a spray bottle before mixing, or mixing it inside a closed bag – this will help you avoid inhaling dust indoors.
Adding to growing media: add perlite to potting soil, humus-rich soil or seed-starting mix at approx. 10–30% by volume (e.g. 1 l per 4–5 l of soil) and mix thoroughly. The manufacturer allows any proportions – for succulents, cacti and aroids, increase the proportion to 30–50%.
Propagating cuttings: root stem and leaf cuttings in clean, moist perlite or a 1:1 perlite and vermiculite mix. Perlite retains moisture around the cut while preventing rot.
Watering: growing media containing perlite dry faster and more evenly – water when the top layer has dried out. Excess water drains away freely, making plants safer from overwatering.
Uses
Agro perlite is the most versatile aerating additive for growing media: seed-starting soil, mixes for potted plants, aroids, succulents and cacti, humus-rich soils, and growing media for vegetables and flowers in containers. The manufacturer particularly recommends it for vegetative plant propagation (rooting cuttings). Pure perlite also works well as a growing medium in hydroponics and cultivation in rockwool/coco, as well as a lightweight drainage layer. Combined with coco coir and vermiculite, it creates a sterile mix for sowing exotic and vegetable seeds from the mr.seed range.
Gardener’s tip
Perlite is so lightweight that after top-watering it may float to the surface of the pot. If this bothers you, mix it thoroughly with the soil before planting and water plants from below (into the saucer) – the granules will stay where they belong: among the roots.
