A lawn that doesn’t panic when it doesn’t rain for a week. Suchmix is a BIOVITA lawn grass seed mixture for dry, sunny areas and sandy, nutrient-poor soils. Deep-rooting species tolerate periodic water shortages well, regenerate quickly and create a dense, carpet-like lawn. What makes this product stand out
Suchmix is formulated for challenging conditions: plenty of sun, little water and sandy, nutrient-poor soil. The grass germinates quickly and, most importantly, develops deep roots, allowing it to reach water where ordinary mixtures can no longer find it. As a result, it tolerates periodic water shortages well, then regenerates quickly after drought and returns to its carpet-like appearance.
Perennial ryegrass (50%) predominates in the mixture, providing a fast start and good resistance to foot traffic, while fescues account for as much as 45%—red, hard and deep-rooting tall fescue—species that are naturally the most water-efficient. The addition of Kentucky bluegrass thickens the turf with rhizomes and helps fill in bare patches. Certified seeds from the Polish producer BIOVITA.
How to use, step by step
Soil preparation: Remove weeds, stones and roots, dig to spade depth and level with a rake. Add sand to heavy soils; add compost or mature soil to very light soils. Leave the soil for 1–2 weeks to settle, then rake it again and lightly roll it.
Sowing: Sow on a windless day when the soil is moist but not muddy. Divide the seeds into two portions and sow them crosswise (once lengthwise and once crosswise), by hand or with a spreader, at a rate of approx. 2.5–3 kg per 100 m². When overseeding bare patches in an existing lawn, approx. 1–1.5 kg per 100 m² is sufficient.
Covering and watering: Cover the seeds shallowly (approx. 0.5–1 cm) by gently raking them in, then roll or tread the soil so the seeds have good contact with it. Water with a fine spray every day so that the top layer remains constantly moist until germination (usually 7–21 days, depending on the species and weather).
First mowing: When the grass reaches approx. 8–10 cm, mow it for the first time to a height of 5–6 cm using sharp blades. Then mow regularly, removing no more than one-third of the blade height. After 4–6 weeks from germination, you can apply the first lawn fertilizer.
Uses
Choose Suchmix for a full-sun lawn, a sandy allotment, slopes and embankments that dry out quickly, and gardens without automatic irrigation. It also performs well on intensively used recreational lawns and green spaces. It is a good choice for overseeding areas where ordinary grass “burns” brown every summer. For shaded areas under trees, choose Cieńmix.
Gardener’s tip
Grass builds drought resistance through its roots, and roots develop during the first season. After germination, do not water a little every day—switch to less frequent but generous watering (once every few days, until the soil is moist to a depth of 10–15 cm). The grass will learn to seek water deeper down and will then truly withstand July heat without a sprinkler.
