A dense, green lawn wherever sunlight is scarce. Cieńmix is a BIOVITA lawn grass seed mix for establishing lawns in areas with limited sunlight—under trees, in orchards and along the north-facing walls of houses. Shade-tolerant, strongly tillering species form dense turf that does not require heavy watering or frequent mowing. The 0.9 kg package is enough for a small shaded corner or for overseeding bare patches under trees.

What makes this product stand out
Cieńmix is a mix developed for areas with limited sunlight—under trees, in orchards and along the north-facing walls of buildings. It contains species that tolerate restricted light and tiller strongly, so instead of sparse, elongated clumps, you get compact, intensely green turf. A Cieńmix lawn does not require heavy watering or frequent mowing—in the shade, grass grows more slowly and the soil dries out more slowly.
The base is Grasslands Nui perennial ryegrass (70%), a variety with rapid emergence and dense tillering that quickly covers the soil and resists moss. Red fescue (20%) and hard fescue (10%) are among the most shade-tolerant lawn grasses: fine-leaved and tolerant of the poor, drier soils found under trees, where tree roots compete for water. How to use it step by step
Soil preparation: Weed the area, remove stones and roots, dig to spade depth and level with a rake. Add sand to heavy soils, and compost or mature topsoil to very light soils. Leave the soil for 1–2 weeks to settle, then rake it again and lightly roll it.
Sowing: Sow on a windless day when the soil is moist but not muddy. Divide the seeds into two portions and sow them crosswise (once lengthwise and once across the area)—by hand or with a spreader—at a rate of approx. 2.5–3 kg per 100 m². When overseeding gaps in an existing lawn, approx. 1–1.5 kg per 100 m² is sufficient.
Covering and watering: Cover the seeds shallowly (approx. 0.5–1 cm) by gently raking them in, then roll or tread the area so they have good contact with the soil. Water with a fine spray every day so that the top layer remains constantly moist until emergence (usually 7–21 days, depending on the species and weather).
First mowing: When the grass reaches approx. 8–10 cm, mow it for the first time to a height of 5–6 cm using sharp blades. Afterwards, mow regularly, removing no more than 1/3 of the blade height. You can apply the first lawn fertiliser 4–6 weeks after emergence.
Uses
Sow Cieńmix under tree canopies, in an orchard, on the north side of a house and along tall hedges, as well as in shaded playgrounds and green spaces. It is excellent for overseeding bare patches that develop in an existing lawn as trees grow. Remember that no grass grows in deep, all-day shade—in such places, ground cover plants such as ivy or Japanese pachysandra are a better choice.
Gardener's tip
Mow a shaded lawn higher than the rest of the garden—at 6–8 cm instead of 4–5 cm. A longer blade has a larger leaf surface, so it “catches” more of the limited light that filters through the canopies. In autumn, regularly rake up leaves: a layer of fallen leaves smothers the grass and encourages moss, which is already abundant in the shade.
